Arthur M. Sackler Gallery
1050 Independence Ave., SW
Washington, DC

Location: Pavilion, Street Level

On view is a 9-foot tall statue--whose name means goddess--by Indian artist Ravinder Reddy (b. 1956). The statue's brightly colored, sensuous female face recalls images of traditional Hindu deities, while at the same time reflecting elements from popular Indian culture--bright lipstick, gold-plated earrings, ribbons, and scarves.
